10 Of The Strangest Things Ever Sold Online

The internet is an odd place sometimes and over the two decades, it has really exploded in its ability to facilitate that great human need; buying and selling thing. Naturally, some pretty things end up for sale on the internet, often on sites like eBay, or even through something like Craigslist. Here are but 10 of the strangest things that ever ended up for sale online.

Autographed Air Guitar

I don't think there is a person who can claim they've never heard a rip roaring guitar solo and started acting like Jimi Hendrix, swinging their guitar round and playing along. The only difference is there is no real guitar. This is an item that has popped up a number of times in recent years, but not too many offer an autographed air guitar! The question of who autographed this "unused, unopened, undamaged item" is likely to be answered after you win the auction — starting bid $15.

Dead Fairy

Hoaxes have come and gone through the ages, one such hoax is this image from the 1860s of supposed real fairies the picture takers daughter had befriended. They seem all too happy to lead a merry dance close to the giant human.

Another story of fairies is this apparent mummified corpse of a 'fairy being' which was found while wandering through a yard sale. Somehow, it ended up online advertised a genuine fairy corpse. It looks like dusty off tuna stuck onto a old Halloween decoration, but whatever, some people really like fairies. Peter Pan must not have clapped loud enough to wake this fairy up. Lucky zombie fairies ain't a thing.

The Internet

It really has all been thought of. Offering the World Wide Web in its entirety, this bargain of an auction began at only $1 million. Hopefully potential 'buyers' knew this was a gag.

The joke would actually be on the seller, if it was true he owned the whole internet, as the accumulative price of the world wide web is more like trillions than a measly million.

Virginity

Brazilian model, Catarina Migliorini, listed her virginity on Ebay and it was eventually sold for $780,000 to a Japanese millionaire identified only as 'Natsu'. The eventual winner never paid up and so the deal was off and she soon re-listed the auction for a second time. This time around it was part of a documentary to watch as the auction went on and the thoughts as the deadline approached. She isn't the last to do so either as men and women alike now find a get rich quick scheme even though its technically a one time listing.

Virgin Mary Toast

If the supposed mother of Jesus Christ could return to us on earth, surely she would choose what she came back in or on. But apparently not, because on this return to the mortal realm, she opted for toast. A family from (yep, you guessed it) the US discovered that a grilled cheese sandwich of theirs looked suspiciously like the Virgin Mary. While we could go on about everything that is wrong with that chain of events, we will just leave you with this: the partially bitten slice sold for US$28,000.

Christoper Columbus' False Teeth

Where do we start with the problems here? Not only has Columbus been dead for over 500 years, but the accompanying photo has the seller wearing said fake teeth — which a child happened to find it on an ocean's edge — before a disclaimer tells you "no refunds on used items, especially false teeth". Like we said, so many things wrong here.

One Dollar

Is it love that makes the world go round, or is money? Most would say its now the mighty green notes that control us all and one clever ebay seller put the theory to trial with his auction. Putting to the test the true value of a dollar, this auction offers a one US dollar bill at a starting price of 99 cents. It's almost a clever social experiment when you thing about it, but I doubt the world of social science, psychology and economic will ever take it seriously. Quick, get in now and save a cent! The only downside is that the bill may vary from the provided picture.

A Mold of Pavarotti's Left Leg

Luciano Pavarotti is arguably the most famous operatic singer to have ever lived and he sadly passed away at age 71 in 2007. Toward the end of his career he had severe leg problems and needed help walking, he even had a mould make to create a construction to do so. So no surprise, the mould ended up on ebay.

Going for one cent (although asking for around 25 dollars in shipping fees) this is the only plaster mould of Luciano Pavarotti's left leg — which was produced at a medical device company.

A Used Wedding Dress

A womans wedding dress is meant to be worn once and then thats it, but finding used ones on ebay is not an uncommon occurence. but one man took it further. American Larry Star was so disillusioned by his marriage break-up that he not only sold his ex-wife's wedding dress on eBay —

but he modelled the dress as well. Spreading his 'size 12' frame around the world, the dress sold for US$3850. Not a bad result, unless you're the buyer of course.

Justin Timberlake's Toast

Back in his N*SYNC heyday, Justin Timberlake caused an eBay frenzy when a supposed "uneaten" piece of his French toast went up for sale. If only there was proof that it really was him who hadn't eaten that toast which came with fork, plate and extra syrup.
